About two weeks ago, I shot my first music video for an Illustrated Hits contest, and despite being nervous out of my mind, I think it went pretty damn well! Accompanied by the beautiful vocal stylings and guitar strumming of Diamönd, I covered “Can’t Feel My Face” by The Weeknd. When I was trying to choose a song to cover, I began reading the lyrics and was surprised to find how incongruent the subject of this song was in relation to the original production/composition.
All this time, I had thought it was just another song about some dude that’s sprung on some girl, but I found these subtle pieces of helplessness, unrequited love, and scorn, and I just couldn’t help myself; I HAD to cover this song (because I’m apparently a masochist). The twist? I had about 2 weeks to produce, record, mix and master the song, AND to get the music video shot, edited and released… Did I mention I have a full time day job with about anywhere from a 30 minute to an hour commute? #TimeCrunch … #TimeLord?
It’s a good thing I went to school and got a degree; there’s nothing like college to teach you how to deal with bullshit on a deadline 🙂
Anyway, as you may know, the video turned out beautifully, and the (your) responses/reactions to the video: Mind-blowing. Now we’re anxiously awaiting Tuesday, March 29th for the results to come in – I really think we have a chance at winning this thing, and it’s all thanks to you!
